You have two different types of fat in you: white adipose
tissue (WAT) and the brown adipose tissue (BAT). Until recently, scientists
thought that BAT was only present in infants. Now they know that both, which
are used as energy storages, are active in adults. The scientists gave the
obese mice a protein called Stat3. This along with another protein called PRDM16
develops the BAT and decreases the person’s obesity.
When I first saw this article, I thought that it was crazy. I
believed that you can only become less fat by having a healthy diet and working
out. I now know that there are other weight loss strategies and not just the
ways the contestants lose weight on “The Biggest Loser”.
Through this article, I further increased my knowledge of
how enzymes work in the body. I learned that enzymes do not just increase the
speed of reaction times but also help regulate things like fat in your body.
All in all, this new breakthrough could change the world and
make the Earth’s inhabitants healthier. This could also cause a decrease in
cancer and diabetes. This group of scientists at Virginia Commonwealth
University have really discovered something that could help mankind.

Your post was very interesting and had a lot of good information, although you could've added more about that specific enzyme. I liked your reflection and you made good comments on what you thought about it.

Overall I think you could've spoke more of your bias. Such as never being obese.
C-Aware, Most of your information was clear, but particularly in the second paragraph, it was confusing. TyK2,PRDM16, and Stat3 were not explianed enough.
ReplyDeleteR-Reflective, This was interesting and it is about enzymes which we learned about.
Analysis-Aware, If you explained the second paragraph it would be reflective.
I- Novice, The biggest loseris the only conection.
S-aware, the thrid to last paragraph is ok but you should expland on it.
This is interesting but how expenise is this to lose weight more or less then traditional methods?

To Improve: Include your own points of view and bias, did this in any way change them? What is the point of view of society as a whole, if there was a 'cure' due to this would it be widely taken up? Should it come at the expensive of harder dieting or better nutrition and exercising?
